As We Travel Along

Hello from the road!

In our last blog, we had made it through Alabama, Louisiana, and Texas—and that was just the start. Each of these states offered a beauty and experience we weren’t expecting, but thoroughly enjoyed.

From there, we continued on to New Mexico and Arizona, staying in nine different cities, then traveled through California, Utah, and Colorado. Again, each of these states had such unique landscapes and scenery. Living in North Carolina, I had never seen such grandeur. Even though I’ve been to the NC mountains many times, this was different.

Once we headed west, we saw mountain ranges—some even snow-capped—desert plains stretching as far as the eye could see, vegetation shifting from trees to brush to nothing, and the continuous flow of trains moving along hidden tracks to who knows where.

At times, it was a little overwhelming for this flatland girl. But had I never committed to this journey with Duane, these wonders would have remained dreams, hopeful “one days,” and possibly lost realities.

Has it been stressful? Yes. Has my PTSD been pushed to the limits? Oh heck yeah (let’s not speak about Monarch Pass).

But I’ve also realized that until we allow ourselves to be stretched, we never know how strong we are.

By no means is this adventure over; we ain’t got tired yet. We have several more states to sleep in, more sights to see, more people to meet, and many rivers to cross as we travel along!
